Ajax Fire and Emergency Services of Ajax, Ontario runs a “Fire Chief for the Day” contest every year for children in their school district from Grades 3 to 6. Ajax’s annual contest helps deliver their fire safety message to young people in their community. Fire Safety Education was pleased to provide the artwork for this year’s contest entry ballot, featuring our very own character, Alert Bert the Smoke Alarm

Ajax asked students to submit a ballot with a drawing showing fire safety messages that reflect this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme – “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep!”

7-year-old Jayden Reales was named Fire Chief for the Day. The event was held on October 7th during Fire Prevention Week.

Reales’ artwork was selected as the winner out more than 250 submissions received. Reales supervised a fire drill at his school and was then taken by fire truck to Ajax Fire Station Headquarters. Reales received a tour of Ajax’s station, a uniform and helmet, and a selection of other great prizes. He also met with Ajax Mayor Steve Parish.

Fire Safety Education would like to salute Ajax Fire & Emergency Services and Jayden Reales for raising awareness about the importance of smoke alarm safety and helping their community to become more prepared for the event of a fire emergency.
