Description

With this “In an Emergency, Call 9-1-1” Presentation Display, your community will learn when it is appropriate to dial 911. 9-1-1 is a vital service that has been responsible for saving numerous lives. Emergencies are any situation in which an individual needs immediate help from the fire department, police, or emergency medical personnel. While it may be difficult, those finding themselves in an emergency need to remain calm and call 9-1-1 for help.

The banner provides easy to understand lists of the different fire, police, and medical emergencies that necessitate a 9-1-1 call. Individuals whose house is on fire or who see a house or building on fire should call 9-1-1. The police should be called if there is a crime in progress or if someone witnesses suspicious activity. For example, a person sneaking around properties at odd hours. Additional examples of police emergencies include car accidents or if an individual believes their life or another’s is in danger.

9-1-1: For Safety, For Health, For Life!

There are numerous medical emergency situations that should prompt individuals to call 9-1-1. Including, but not limited to severe allergic reactions, sudden slurred speech or blindness (which may indicate a stroke), drug overdoses, uncontrollable bleeding, and lost consciousness. A timely call to 9-1-1 for events like these can help to ensure that lives are not lost.

As individuals may not realize that they will need to give certain information to dispatchers when calling 9-1-1. The display includes some of the more commonly asked questions. Callers should be able to describe the nature of the emergency. Providing the location and street address of the emergency as well as the phone number from which they are calling from. Dispatchers frequently ask about additional details. Like injuries, medical symptoms or physical descriptions of any person who is suspected of having committed a crime.

The banner also notes that callers need to follow all the instructions given to them. Only hang up once instructed to do so. It advises that individuals who accidentally call 9-1-1 should not hang up, but instead explain to the dispatcher what has happened. 9-1-1 is for emergencies only and 9-1-1 prank calls are illegal in most states.
