Description
The In The Know: Driving Under the Influence Information Card is a powerful tool to present the startling realities and consequences associated with drunk and drugged driving. This Drinking and Driving (DUI) handout concentrates on the facts and statistics behind driving under the influence in order to convey just how serious of a problem it is. Of the 40,000 fatal car crashes each year, 16,000 of these crashes are alcohol or drug related. This works out to 27 deaths every day that happen due to impaired driving or one drunk driving death happening every 53 minutes.
Drive Sober, Arrive Alive!
Unfortunately, young children are not immune from these sad statistics. About 17% of alcohol-related traffic fatalities involve children ages 14 and under. Most children that are killed in crashes are riding with the drunk driver. Drunk driving costs the United States approximately $132 billion each year and it costs each adult in the country almost $500 per year.
The card identifies just how much alcohol it takes to be considered legally drunk. The rate of drunk driving is highest among drivers ages 21 to 25 years old.
On average, a drunk driver will drive intoxicated 80 times before the first arrest. When it comes to drugged driving, 10 million people have reported driving while using drugs. Males are 84% more likely to drive under the influence of drugs than females. Also, 18% of deceased drivers test positive for illegal substances.
In conclusion, the card provides ways that your audience can make a difference. They should never accept a ride from someone who has been drinking or using drugs. If they’re hosting, they should make sure that there are plenty of non-alcoholic choices. Also, that every guest leaves with a sober driver. Having a Designated Driver is crucial when going out and drinking alcohol.
